Wk 4 Wimba

After sharing my paper with my peers I was pleased to see that they thought I had done a good job. I looked at their suggestions and went back and double checked my paper. I made corrections where they suggested. It was great to have their feedback, especially since I had been staring at it all week. It was nice to have outside sources point things out that were blending together for me. I am grateful that I had such a great group to work with.

From Jon:
Hey Daniela!

I really liked your introduction. You gave a great description of 21st century learners and you also have excellent thoughts here about student motivation. One thing though that I felt was missing was there could have been a little bit more of a connection to the title of your article, "Blogging Into Math". In the introduction, it really doesn't mention math or blogging. This might be what you intended, but it was just a thought that I had while reading it.

Your lit review section is very thorough. I think your organization of this part of the article is very strong.

I don't know if it would be allowed or not for the publication that you are submitting this to, but a chart might add a lot to your methodology section if it is possible.

Your conclusion is solid, but maybe you could have a different final sentence referring back to your main topic that would tie everything together a bit more.

Also, I know we are all in a time crunch, but if you can find a few extra minutes today it might be good to reread your article and look for some grammar errors. I noticed there was one in your very first sentence, and I think there were just a couple others later on.

I hope some of this feedback helps! You have a very good article here. Good luck with everything!

From Alicia:
hey...
not all of the fonts are the same size and I think it might need to be in Times New Roman
the beginning paragraph is a little difficult to understand
and the methodology section should probably be rewritten in the past tense
overall..I think it looks good
thanks for sharing

Wk 4 Publishing_Presentation Project

As the sun sets on this chapter of my Master’s degree I am happy to say it has been a chapter worth writing about…Literally. After completing my CBR project I have learned so much through my research for my Lit Review as well and actually implementing my challenge with my students. I chose to write and submit my journey for publishing. I think this will be a great way to share with other teachers my journey and how it affected my students. I am excited to share my results and experience with other and see if I can make a change in they way they teach math!

Heather,
I love the way that you are making connection to this book. I feel the same way about it. I too like the "we" stories, as there is not point in pointing fingers. It never solves the problem. I like that as a WE every one feels a sense of responsibility. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

I completely agree with you, I couldn't have said it better myself. I feel like this book should be used to put the power back into each individuals hands in order for them to be successful!

Wk 4 The Art of Possibility

Microsoft Clip Art
After reading the last part of the Art of Possibility I think this is great book about being you. It starts by giving you ideas on how to be the best you can be. Including to it that you shouldn’t take yourself too seriously. Lastly leaving you with the thoughts that only you know what’s for you and that what works for other people may not be the best thing for you. While reading this book I thought about all the “kid” advice people give and how I always think….if you’re not coming over to help me do it the way you suggest and they way I do it works for me. Then I don’t care what the books say; I do what works for me! I think that this book really set the town of how you can be empowered to be the best you. You just have to be you!

Wk 3 Think Out Loud

After giving it a lot of thought and reviewing which Journal my project would best fit, I have decided to send it for publication. I have chosen to submit my project to the Learning and Leading with Technology Journal. This journal ranges from 200 to 1,000 word articles that discuss ways to implement technology into the classroom. I think this would be a perfect way to share my project with people who are willing and wanting to use and implement technology into their own classroom. My project will help prepare students for all the upcoming changes to testing procedures that involve technology.

Wk 3 Wimba

The wimba archived this week was useful in giving me more information on what is expected of me for my presentation or publishing. I am still struggling with how I want to present mine CBR project, because both make me nervous. I am glad I was able to listen in on the same concerns others from previous months have had. I think it made me decide that I want to publish my paper, and maybe look at presenting it at a later date now that I will have the steps to doing so. Thanks for the help

Alicia,
I loved Chapter 6 too. It is so often that we are reminded what a fast pace we live and how grumpy people can be. I sometimes stop to wonder if they even realize that things are not as bad as they may seem at that moment. If only they would step back and not take it all too seriously...Not to say everything in life is this way. But like the old saying "don't sweat the small stuff!"

Heather,
I too LOVE rule 6 too. I think that there are somethings that you just have to take a step back from and give it a good laugh. Other wise I think that we'd drive ourselves mad.
You must be a very strong person, it takes a lot to pull yourself up and overcome some obstacles. I think I have always believed that you have to take what life gives and go with it, and not use it as crutch. Good for you, for sharing your story with your students. You never know whose life you touched!

Wk 3 The Art of Possibility

Microsoft Clip Art

While reading the Art of Possibility I kept thinking the book was talking directly to me…corny I know! I have been having a difficult time reaching my new class this school year, they are unmotivated to learn and unwilling to take responsibility for their actions. I have attempted just about everything I have up my sleeve. I have had to take a step back and re-analyze my job. As I was reading the statement “how much greatness are we will to grant?” (p. 73). It is my job to inspire and bring out the best qualities these kids have, as the book said I am going to have to speak to their passions. I am going to have make connection with them. These chapters made me feel like I can still go in a make a difference. I have been feeling a little defeated and needed something to give me inspirations. I think this was it. I am looking forward to making a change!

Wk 2 Think Out Loud

When given the choice between presenting or publishing, I am torn. I love talking to people and sharing my ideas and learning form other people. However; I am not sure that my CBR project would be a great presentation, I feel like it made a huge impact in my classroom and with my kids, but maybe writing it out would be a better way to get the points across. In thinking about my CBR , I think that I did a good job of preparing my students to take test using computerized software, this is new and challenging for them. Having said that, I think that the best place to  publish my finding would be in a Technology in the Classroom type Journal such as The Journal of Interactive Learning Research (JILR) http://www.aace.org/pubs/jilr/default.htm in which I can relate to computer based assessments. To present my finding it would be appropriate at a conference like the Florida Educational Technology Conference, in which I would see many classroom teachers, or a conference like Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education. I am still unsure of which way I will go, but looking into which would get my information across the best way!

WK 2 Wimba

I am glad that wimba was a review of the chapter readings. I feel that I got a little more clarity, not nearly as clear as it could be. I still have concerns about material that we use in our classroom that we don’t ever realize are infringing on copy right laws. Playing a movie to supplement the curriculum is one of those that is a big stressor.  We can only change what we are aware that we are doing wrong. Having this information will make me that much more aware and able to correct what I do as well as inform other to what the copyright laws are.

I also found it interesting that the reason Prince changed his name was to get out of a contracts. How crazy! Here people have always thought that it was part of him just being eccentric. Who knew it was to get out of a contract? Can you do that… I guess celebrities do what they want anyways.

Alicia,
I like the way that you compared the A project to our EMDT classes. I did think of it that way, but in some ways it is. I think that we have worked hard to maintain what we have been given, but what we put in shows what we've earned. I think it would have been much different if we would have set up our own goals. Setting up our own goals would have given us greater understanding of what and why were doing something. Rather than seeing the big picture pay off in the end.

What an eye opening experience. How empowering it most of felt to feel like you had control, or that the ball was back in your court. I also had some similar thought while reading that chapter. I hope that when I need to use it I am able to step back and analyze how to make things look brighter.

Wk 2 The Art of Possibility

The Art of Possibility has been a great book to read. I am such a big believer in that you get what you put in, and you are only as good as you think you are. Those two beliefs fall right in line with everyone getting an A. If you think you’re an A, you’ll perform like an A. How great is that!
Now I think that you can teach this to kids and they too will rise to the occasion, but I would worry about them at a young age not wanting to do anymore because they already earned an A. I know that in the book it talks about being the second violinist, but that comes with maturity.
It caught my attention to think that we live in a world of measurement. As a society everyone likes to know where he or she stacks up, or how they are ‘keeping up with the Jones’.  I love the idea that we can make our own realities by taking a step back and removing our preconceptions. By looking at the glass as half full. Not that you can create your own powerful Universe by simple thinking it can happen, but by doing things you love, and engaging people in your passion, as they state in the book.
I think this book is great read for anyone!

Wk 1 Wimba

After watching the Wimba achieves I feel more confident about he upcoming month. I was a little concerned with the workload. Now that I have a better understanding of what is expected this month I happy to say I am confident I will be able to get through it. I am excited to get my web pages finished up and put together. My Lit Review is DONE! And I am happy to make it web ready. It is amazing how fast this year has gone by and that we are this far along with the program. I enjoyed learning about the Copyright rules in the first week’s assignments as well reading everyone’s post. I look forward to the rest of this month. I am excited about the idea that we will have all our ‘paperwork’ ready and be able to publish or present when the program is all done. Can’t wait to get started!

I like Heather am glad that you feel better...I am still confused. Your definition of the laws did give me a better understanding of what they mean. I like how you used the fish analogy to explain the copyright laws. It is very true and they water between the Atlantic and the Gulf are also a gray area.
I think we need to revisit these rules and make more clear definite laws that work in this time and age.

My Response to Heather's Blog post:
After watching the videos on Copyright and Fair use, and am more concerned about how much is NOT fair use. I never realized how small the widow is for all the media that is out there. I have been concerned about the copyright issues over the last 10m months, but was not sure about all the rules. I believe I too was under the top ten misconceptions. As do is I believe are most people. I find that these rules are most difficult to explain to our students, especially at the Elementary level.  However I am finding that we are going to need to educate them early so that they are aware of what the laws are since they are our 21st century learners.  Which bring up the concern that if I am still confused about what the rules are exactly how do I get it across to the them? The lines are blurry when it comes to these rules.
